Jacob Parrott was born July 17, 1843 in Fairfield County,
not far from Lancaster, Ohio. In 1866, he married Sarah Lawrence. Jacob was the first
American soldier to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for valor and bravery beyond
the call of duty on March 25, 1863. Jacob died on December 12, 1908 and was laid to rest
in Grove Cemetery in Kenton, Ohio, Cemetery Road was renamed in honor of Jacob; it is now
known as Jacob Parrott Boulevard.
